I'm a PhD candidate working with focused ultrasound, a technology used for noninvasive brain surgery. Without cutting open the skull, ultrasound can be focused into a small volume inside the brain to heat up and destroy brain tissue. As part of my PhD work, I've developed an algorithm that performs better than the standard of care, by reducing positioning errors by 51% (important because we're destroying brain tissue!) and increasing intensity at the target by 45%.
I enjoy working on projects that have the potential to change the way we do things. Sometimes, that takes the form of my PhD work and past research experiences. Other times, it involves creating tools to simplify tasks that drain energy from us. Ultimately, I would like to reduce the activation barriers that stop us from doing the things we want to do.
